Takashi Murakami Launches NFT Trading Cards

Japanese pop artist Takashi Murakami announced today the upcoming launch of his collectible trading cards titled '108 Flowers Revised' as NFTs. Inspired by his physical works, these cards will be available for minting on the Base application starting July 31. Murakami is renowned for his 'Superflat' style, characterized by vibrant colors and smiling flowers, drawing inspiration from pop culture, anime, manga, and consumerism. He has collaborated with renowned brands such as Louis Vuitton, Supreme, and Vans, as well as musical artists like Billie Eilish and New Jeans. Since the NFT boom in 2021, the artist has been active in the space, launching his own NFT series, Murakami.Flowers, on Ethereum. He also worked with Nike on the now-canceled RTFKT NFT project. The NFT market has recently experienced a surge in market capitalization, growing to approximately $6 billion, following a broader rally in the cryptocurrency markets. This figure peaked at over $6.6 billion on July 22. According to Coingecko data, this is a significant rise from April's $3 billion and marks the highest level since January. 'NFT markets are gaining momentum due to the bullish trend and increased risk-on sentiment,' noted Nick Ruck, Research Director at LVRG.
