Directed by Doug Liman, known for 'The Bourne Identity' and 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith,' the screenplay is penned by Nick Schenk, a frequent collaborator of Clint Eastwood. Details about Davidson and Affleck’s characters remain undisclosed, leaving it uncertain if they will portray notable figures linked to Bitcoin’s creator, such as Hal Finney or Nick Szabo. The film is described as intertwining political intrigue, high-tech espionage, and a race against time, depicting a fierce battle for control involving global powers from governments to Wall Street and Silicon Valley. Liman has likened the narrative to a 'David and Goliath' confrontation, while producer Ryan Kavanaugh has drawn parallels to 'The Social Network,' which chronicles the rise of Facebook. According to Liman, 'Killing Satoshi' features unlikely antiheroes clashing with the world's most powerful figures in a monumental struggle, questioning the essence of money and its control. The title references Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous figure behind Bitcoin, whose true identity remains a mystery. The Bitcoin mined by Satoshi, untouched since 2010, holds a current value of approximately $120 billion. A recent HBO documentary suggested early Bitcoin developer Peter Todd could be Nakamoto, an assertion Todd has denied. Additionally, the fall of the FTX exchange will be adapted into an eight-episode series titled 'The Altruists,' produced by a company established by Barack and Michelle Obama, although no release date is set.
