Coinbase, the leading cryptocurrency exchange in the U.S., introduced perpetual futures for U.S. traders on Monday. Now, users can trade two types of contracts: nano Bitcoin Perpetual Futures and nano Ethereum Perpetual Futures. Coinbase stated in its announcement, "For years, U.S. crypto traders have looked on as their international counterparts utilized one of the most popular tools in the digital asset marketplace: perpetual futures. Due to a complex regulatory landscape, they remained just out of reach for traders in the United States. Until now." These new futures products allow trading with leverage up to 10x and have expiration dates of five years, offering a more flexible, long-term trading strategy compared to traditional monthly or quarterly futures. Trading fees start at 0.02% per contract. This launch coincides with significant legislative changes in the U.S., including the recent passage of the GENIUS Act, which provides a clear framework for stablecoins. Additionally, the U.S. House of Representatives has moved forward with the Clarity Act, aimed at establishing a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency, particularly concerning the roles of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. These developments have led to a notable surge in Bitcoin, Ether, and other major altcoins, fueling the ongoing market rally. Coinbase shares also reached a new all-time high of over $437 last Friday, following a market capitalization of $100 billion earlier this week. However, shares dipped 1.47% on Monday, closing at $413.63, according to Google Finance data. Disclaimer: The Block is an independent media outlet that provides news, research, and data.
